E-Discovery Data Archiving Solutions for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Challenge:

Indigo IT was contracted to lead an Enterprise Archiving and Compliance initiative for CBP. The challenge was to increase the information availability for end users. For example, the response time for data discovery requests was 7 to 10 days when Indigo IT started this effort.

Solution:

Data archiving solutions for government agenciesIndigo IT first conducted an Analysis of Alternatives on the best technology to meet the CBP objectives for the contract. After considerable market research and analysis, our experts implemented a data archiving solution using Symantec Enterprise Vault within the CBP private cloud on Data Center 2. At the time, the Enterprise Vault installation was one of the largest data archiving solutions in the federal government. Our Enterprise Vault solution reduced data discovery response by 98 percent, in addition to realizing other significant benefits. CBP Internal Affairs became able to conduct their own data discovery. The solution significantly reduced storage costs and increased email restore capability by 92 percent. The Enterprise Vault solution also provided enhanced threat detection. Through an ability to mine incoming email for malware code, the Security Operations Center (SOC) was able to identify malware even before the signatures updated in the messaging hygiene infrastructure. As a result, the CBP SOC is often one of the first to alert the government to malicious email threats. They are also one of the first to report to the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT).
